Over OneSignal’s 1,000 MAU limit? Keep sending push to the users you already have

Since 1 October 2026 the free OneSignal plan pauses mobile push above 1,000 monthly active users (OneSignal’s announcement). PushExit sends to your existing subscribers through your own Firebase project: no app update, no server to run, no monthly bill.

How it works

  1. Paste your OneSignal App ID and a REST API key. PushExit downloads your subscriber list with tokens and tags, which the free plan still allows.
  2. Add the Firebase service account JSON of your app, the same file you uploaded to OneSignal.
  3. Write the message, pick who gets it by tags, and send. Delivery goes straight through Firebase Cloud Messaging to the phones that already have your app.

Questions

Do my users need to update the app?

No. The tokens your app already registered belong to your own Firebase project, so a message sent with your Firebase key reaches the same phones. We tested this end to end with the OneSignal Android SDK 5.

Is this allowed?

Exporting your subscribers is a documented OneSignal feature on every plan, and sending through your own Firebase project is how push works on Android. You keep using OneSignal for web push and email if you like.

Do you see my keys or my users?

No. PushExit runs on your computer. Keys and the subscriber list stay there; we run no servers for it.

Can’t I just use the Firebase console?

Not for these phones. The console only reaches devices registered by the Firebase SDK of your own app, not the ones the OneSignal SDK registered. We checked: a console campaign never arrived.

What does it run on?

Windows and Linux. macOS is not planned yet.
